Kalmeshwara Farmer Producer Co. Ltd., was registered in 25-05-2016 with 50 farmers as shareholder at Navalgund, Dharwad district. As generally any FPOs are formed this one too has intentions to support farmers and work towards enabling their negotiation power during purchase and sales.
Kalmeshwara FPCL covers 40 villages in Navalgund taluk with major crop being Green gram, Bengal gram, Maize, Chilli, Cotton and safflower. The area/villages where FPO works are rainfed and the demand for water for agriculture and community is on high demand.
Agricultural Initiatives at Deshpande Foundation has been designed as a holistic ecosystem that brings together the best practices in water management, Collectivization of producers through FPO, sustainable cropping, and soil analysis.
To tackle problems with rain-fed agriculture Deshpande Foundation started Farm Pond program in 2014 from Alagwadi village, Navalgunda taluka, Dharwad. Once the farmers in this region were able to have additional water through Farm Ponds it was the need for an institution which can help them to have the right inputs, technical support and the marketing support this is where the Kalmeshwara Farmer Producer Co. Ltd. (KFPCL), Navalgund, Dharwad district came in to existence, the formation of the KFPCL is totally demand driven and need of the hour.
By 2019 the shareholders grew to 1000+ and the farmers are getting benefit from this FPO from various services it offered. KFPCL is fully Statutory & ROC compliant, follow transparency in financial management through proper approval system. The team is well trained and have hands on experience in handling output market linkages.
