1. Farm gate trade is a business activity here KFPCL is purchasing the farm commodities from farmers. And KFPCL is also paying the farmers instant with bearer cheque. AT the time of procurement, will do quality check farm commodities with all scientific instruments such as moisture meter and sieving machine. Depending on the quality will quote the price to farmers’ commodity.

2. KFPCL is having 13 collection centers located in Digwal, Hothi B, Hadnoor, Yenkur, Siddeshwara, kon melkunda, Hosur, Chikkabagewadi, Navalagund, Naragund, Bailahongal, Ballarwad and Annigere. 3 collection points such as Dharwad, Karjagi and Garag.

It has become a common scene to see farmers running from point to point in search of seeds to sow in their field in the monsoon season in Karnataka. The farmers are stressed out in search of good quality seeds as they are already under trouble with various natural disasters. It is found that, farmers now a day are not storing their own seeds as compare to older generation of farmers who use to store best seeds for next sowing. Because of these practices the future of agriculture with high dependency on seed companies and other institutions is bleak, it is high time that, farmers should have accessibility to good quality seeds and break monopoly of certain companies on production, supply and distribution of seeds.

Given these situations Deshpande Foundation, Hubli in support of Seed Unit, Agriculture University, Dharwad, Karnataka State Seed & Organic Certification Agency, Dharwad and NABARD Bank, Dharwad has facilitated Seed Production activity in Kalmeshwara Farmer Producer Co. Ltd. (KFPCL), Navalgund, Dharwad district which has more than 1000 shareholders and other farming community in the area.

It was a fruitful effort and KFPCL is the first FPO in Karnataka which is a “Certified Seed Producer” by KSSOCA, Govt. of Karnataka. As part of pilot activity KFPCL has taken up 50-acre Green gram seed production, due to heavy rainfall the yield obtained was less i.e., 63 quintals against the expected 200 quintals. Still all lots of this seeds have passed various test undertaken by KSSOCA and University of Agriculture Science, Dharwad. It was a successful pilot in FY 2020-21 and based on the learnings KFPCL has taken up 100+ acres seed production every year.

KFPCL is one such farmer producer organization we are in inputs sales, output procurements, seed production in the next level of development KFPCL is starting the Resource center with 15+ products such as Dals, Millets, oils and other commodities. This packing unit was established in the year 2022-June.

In the last year we covered the Hubli and Dharwad city by on boarding the 30+ retailer’s shops 3 FPOs.

In the packing unit, will purchase the value added products from the shareholder farmer and sell it in the name of KFPCL. Here we are promoting the Village level Farmer entrepreneurs.
